ABOUT US

Our vision at Jejak Pulang is a planet inhabited by human and non-human primates equally. In our rescue and rehabilitation project, the orphan orangutans learn essential skills, so that later they can be released back into their natural environment.

Meet the Orangutans

Our Orangutans

All orangutans in our care are wild-born orangutans illegally kept or victimised. Brought to Jejak Pulang for rehabilitation, they have the chance to be reintroduced into a natural forest.

The Programme

Two Main Focuses

Our goals are the rescue and rehabilitation of orangutans as well as the protection of their natural habitat. Aligning the rehabilitation process with natural child development, the orangutans go from Nursery to Forest School to Jungle Academy. Learn more!

Who We Are

The Team

The project was founded in 2017. Onsite, a team of experienced caregivers, vets, biologists and many more is dedicated to support the natural development of the orangutans. Would you like to Join us?

MEET SOME OF OUR ORANGUTANS

At the moment there are 11 orangutans in our care. Stay tuned to learn more about them.

Orangutan Amalia

Amalia arrived in 2017 at an estimated age of 6 years. As the oldest orangutan at Jejak Pulang, she is the most mature. Amalia is self-sufficient and forest competent, therefore she is one of the first candidates to be moved to the release site. Her closest friend is Eska, who she enjoys to spend time with and occasionally shares her nest with.

Orangutan Gerhana

Gerhana was rescued in 2018. He has made great progress and has developed from being a malnourised baby in a critical state to a healthy young orangutan. Gerhana is used to be the youngest in his group and has to fend for himself often. After growing up with his caregivers Jaka and Naomi, he now spends a lot of time with younger orangutans and learns to self-handicap.

Orangutan Kartini

Kartini was rescued in 2018 at the age of 2 years. She came directly from the wild, which is why it took a lot of patience to gain her trust. She grew up with Tegar and Gonda, and especially loved to play with Gerhana when she was younger. Now Kartini is interested in learning forest skills from Amalia, our oldest orangutan.
